Okay, so what?! My sister shows up in the house with an extinct mythical creature and I'm just expected to NOT be freaked out about it?!
— Blade, DU Friendsim
Blade was a former member from the Masquerade Circus, who left to accompany is older sister Zelly after she was laid off due to an accident during one of her performances.
They both currently live simply in the Rem Forest, but Blade wants something greater for himself and hopes to one day become a singer, or to at least have one of his songs out there for the world to see.
Despite this, Blade gets incredibly nervous when having to perform for others, being especially anxious when it comes to singing or showing any of his own personal work, making sharing a difficult task.
Appearance
Blade is 169cm tall, he has light skin, blue eyes and has medium short curly orange hair and white horns.
He's part of a rare subspecies of Drimare who have completely invisible bodies, with the exception of his head, hands and feet, although invisible, he is noticeable very meek and skinny.
He wears blue headphones, a simple blue plaid shirt, a brown vest, light blue fingerless gloves, light blue pants with a brown belt and darker brown and blue boots.
Personality
At first sight, Blade is a reserved and usually not easily approachable individual, he's very anxious and paranoid, which he usually hides behind a passive aggressive demeanour and sarcastic comments.
However, when given a chance to open up, he's actually a lot friendly and goofy, appearing mischievous, loud and charismatic, but also, occasionally moody, which often makes him come across as smug or bratty.
Blade is a clever troublemaker and quick to think of plans to get out of trouble at any time, which he happens to get into a lot. He's not a big fan of orderly places and rules and thoroughly enjoys to mess with things if he knows he can get away with it.
He adores his friends, but he can sometimes come across as selfish and become slightly possessive of them or get easily jealous and angry when he feels like he is getting ignored or replaced.
This is due to his fear of losing them, and he is aware of this and often becomes self-conscious and anxious about it, fearing others will realize these things and hate him as he struggles to keep his feelings under control.
Ironically, despite all this, Blade is very cowardly and reserved when it comes to himself. Despite his past in the circus, his biggest passion is music and singing, as well as songwriting.
But due to being mocked in the past, Blade developed an insecurity complex about it and he refuses to do it in front of anyone, being almost obsessed with keeping it a secret from even his closest friends and becoming angry when feeling pressured about it.
Whether this insecurity is regarding his own self-worth or the quality of his singing and songs themselves is currently a mystery. Part of him wants to share it with others, but he almost immediately represses it all, only seeing his work and worthless and amateur.
He tries to hide it by being passive-aggressive, but he's actually very anxious and paranoid and has a really hard time trusting others other than his close friends.
Relationships
Zelly
Despite never having met their parents, Zelly and Blade were adopted were raised together along with the other younger children in the circus.
They were particularly attached to each other and were always seen together, getting into the habit of referring to each other as brother and sister.
Whether they're biologically related or not is unknown to them, but it never bothered them to begin with.
Being the shy younger brother, from a very young age, Blade always hid behind the shadow of his more extroverted sister who was often overprotective of him. When she was kicked out of the circus, Blade decided to follow her along, leaving all their other friends behind, because he knew Zelly would do the same for him.
Despite everything, they've always been very close and he loves her a lot, and just as she's always there for him, he too tries to be there for her.
They do get into occasional sibling squabble at times but rarely get into fights. Due to Zelly's past overprotectiveness of him, Blade developed a whole complex about wanting to do everything by himself and getting angry when he feels like he's getting babied.
Despite that, he sees that as being his own issue and doesn't resent his sister for that. Zelly can become overprotective and nagging of him, which Blade finds to be very annoying, but yet he also admires how responsible and reliable she is, subconsciously viewing her as a role model for what he could be if he was more confident.
He would still absolutely destroy whoever tried to mess with her and he always makes time to help her when he can.
Iron
Blade and Iron met when they were just young teens, hitting it off from the very beginning through a series of very convoluted shenanigans. Iron was a runaway who came all the way from Soarite and had been living by himself in the old Rem Forest ruins for a few weeks. Seeing how well they got along, Blade invited him to move in with him and Zelly, to which Iron agreed to.
They got along exceptionally well, Iron being curious about the two formerly sheltered siblings and specially Blade who was in awe, curious about this outsider with so many stories to tell, who was both so different and yet so similar to him. The friendship between the two boys quickly grew as they soon became best friends, doing nearly everything together and becoming inseperable to an almost insufferable degree.
The two would often go out of their way to look for trouble, developing a passion for scavenging and mischief, as well as having a shared interest in music, with Blade having dreams about becoming a singer, and Iron wishing to become a pianist like his mother, something which fell through when he lost his arm years ago.
Their friendship was strong, however, as time went on, Blade began feeling troubled, he really liked being with Iron, maybe a bit too much, his presence had also started to make him feel dizzy and flustered. Blade didn't understand this at first, but the moment it dawned on him that these feelings were romantic and he was experiencing a crush, he felt filled with dread. Iron couldn't find out about this, if he did, Blade imagined he'd be grossed out and not want to be his friend anymore and as such, he swore to keep it a secret.
They'd tell each other just about anything, but yet, Blade refrained from telling him about this particular topic, the embarrassment he felt about it and how he couldn't stop feeling that way was just frustrating to him. He had always been shy about the topic of romance, but it didn't keep him from wondering if Iron could feel the same way, let alone swing that way.
Due to his fear of getting rejected, and the mere idea of scaring his friend off, Blade quietly struggled with his feelings, refusing to let out any hint that he felt the way he did. Iron had always been vague about his own feelings on romance, occasionally appearing uncomfortable or distant, and as much as Blade enjoyed indulging on romantic fantasies, he still felt gross about it all, his shame only continuing to increase as he remained silent, simply enjoying his friend's presence.
By then, Iron's former guardian had moved into the forest and Iron moved back in with him, this however didn't really change much about their friendship. Iron and Zelly had also become close friends throughout that time, even if not as close as him and Blade were. He didn't see anything wrong with this, they'd often all hang out together, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. However, when he found out that Iron and Zelly had started dating behind his back, it all changed and he felt his heart break with the revelation, feeling a wave of mistrust over his former best friend and his beloved sister.
However, despite the sadness he felt, his reaction was to lash out at the two of them, at Zelly taking for taking his best friend away, and at Iron for getting with his sister without asking him first. This event broke his heart but he never had the courage to admit his true feelings due to fear of outing himself. Instead, as he lashed out, he cut Iron off, convincing himself that he hated him. Although Iron reluctantly left, he couldn't really get rid of Zelly as they shared a house. He began lashing out more and more in frustration as weeks went by, his anger subsided as he instead became increasingly more depressed and unresponsive until Zelly had to intervene to try and get the two of them to talk.
When they did, Iron apologized and Blade omitted his romantic feelings, blaming his breakdown on feeling betrayed by the two of them and how the idea of him and Zelly being a couple just made him sick, hating himself for not being happy for them. Iron was understanding and the two boys made peace, but Blade could never tell him how he really felt and instead he just repressed his feelings further for years, constantly fearing that he'd lose him if he were to learn the truth.
Despite this, their close friendship was seemingly back to normal, but Blade was a lot more distant and often felt tense and unenthused, and despite Iron trying over and over to reach out to him, it never worked, he wouldn't budge. Blade still loved him, and if loving meant allowing him to be happy dating someone else, so be it. Despite his jealously, Blade still tried his best to be supportive, often becoming dismissive when the topic of his own love life was brought up.
However, he could only keep his feelings bottled up for so long, and after a year of this, Iron confronted him to try and pressure him to get him to stop hiding whatever it was that was hurting him so much so he could actually help him. Fearful at first, Blade gave in and finally confessed to his romantic feelings which he had been hiding away for years, about how disgusting he felt, and how scared he was of the thought of Iron abandoning him and hating him because of it. Years of repressed emotions now out in the open.
To Blade's surprise, Iron was still accepting of the way he felt and all he wanted was for him to feel better, suggesting that they'd stop seeing each other so he could get over those feelings that hurt him so much. However, Blade begged him not to leave him, promising to never act out on those feelings and that he could handle them and get over them now that he finally spoke out. Iron was dubious at first but accepted, and the two remained friends.
Things significantly improved after that day, although still a bit awkward at first, the two became a lot more comfortable with each other, the lack of things to hide greatly improving his anxiety, however Iron had strangely become more... affectionate towards him. Blade didn't think anything about it, figuring he was trying to reassure him that he still cared, and even when Zelly and Iron eventually broke up months after, they all still remained friends. Blade had grown accustomed to not thinking about his crush, avoiding the topic all together and trying to focus on himself, their friendship and his song-writing hobby instead which he used to vent out his feelings.
So when a year later, Iron timidly brought the topic back with a awkward flirting attempt, Blade was confused, where was this coming from? Iron confessed that he had been thinking about him and their past, reflecting on himself, and admitting to crushing on him for a long time but being too deep in denial about it all, however Blade couldn't help but to express reluctance to believe him. And yet... Iron had always been awkward and dismissive when asked about anything on the matter, and as much as he loved the two of them and often idealized them in his mind, him and Zelly always seemed to be a little off, like they weren't really a couple as much as they were just really good friends.
Blade wanted to believe him, Iron wasn't the type to lie about these things, even if this was supposedly a secret that he had kept for who knows how long and apologized profusely for, he was still genuine and regretful of how much pain he caused him. The heartbreak Blade suffered made him not want to accept his confession , but yet his heart still longed for him, all the work he put into burying his feelings was undone, he still loved him and even if Iron was filled with guilt over how long it took him to say anything, he still accepted him, the two embracing each other and sharing their first kiss that same day.
This was the happiest both of them had felt, laughing off all the needless drama that lead them to that moment, the fear of rejection and fearing that they'd gross out each other now seemed like jokes. But Blade still felt worried as a new problem came with this. What would his sister think of him getting with her ex? Their triangle situation was painful enough to navigate as it was.
Blade couldn't keep it hidden from her for too long however, Zelly always knew which buttons to press to get him to talk. And when she did, to his surprise, her reaction to finding out was one of relief, as well as one of regret because of how she felt responsible for Blade pushing her away and not knowing how to help him, feeling guilty over making him capable of believing that she'd shun him for his feelings. With anyone else, Blade would have lashed out, but never with his sister even if her reaction was a bit odd.
Things were only awkward at first but were quick to improve and the boys no longer had anything to hide, being more comfortable with each other and upping their tendency to be insufferably inseperable to an even more annoying degree than what it already was for the average bystander.
In the present, they're still together and dating, and although they're no longer teens, they still keep the spirit of awe and mischief that drove them to so much trouble in the past. They care a lot about each other and although Blade is quite meek and wimpy looking, he'll still go feral if anything or anyone threatens to hurt Iron and he wants to be there for him no matter what.
When in public, it's oddly hard to tell whether they're dating or not as they tend to be kind of private and not as fond of public displays of affection (Or at least Blade isn't) and they're mostly extremely chaotic. But when in private and intimate moments, they go very soft for each other, Blade's tendency to being passive agreessive and sarcastic just completely melts away with Iron's presence. Aside from this, they also picked up their music hobby and often bond over playing, singing and writing music. For many years, Blade had been extremely insecure and anxious about his singing, but with Iron's support, he's been able to slowly become more confident in his work. However, he still has a long way to go.
Lately they've been thinking about moving out together. But Blade isn't sure about leaving everything behind just yet.
Rust
Although barely properly meeting or ever talking to him, Blade developed a firm dislike for Rust's character that he has never been able to shake off. This was mostly due to Iron's influence when the two began living together as brothers with their guardian. Iron would vent out his frustrations regarding Rust, and Blade would listen, this influencing his own opinion on him.
It didn't help that later on, Rust developed a crush on Zelly, and the relationship with him and Iron became friendlier, causing Blade to begin feeling protective and jealous of him. Although not feeling as angered and he used to, he still feels a discomfort around him, especially with how close he and Iron are. But he doesn't act upon it, being able to smell Rust's thirst for drama from a mile away.
He seems to really despise how overly emotional Rust is, and also thinks his "quiet mysterious guy schtick" to be overdone and only a way to get attention from others. They don't really meet or talk other than that.
Atomus
Doesn't trust him, but acts polite out of respect for Iron
He knows what Atomus did and although his presence makes him very anxious, he hides this, being very sceptical of what he assumes is Atomus' act of being nice.
Steam
A friend! They met under some specific circumstances I'm still exploring, Blade had a tiny crush on her for like a week, but it was probably out of trying not to think about Iron. I don't know when or how they met but I can see them as being good friends. I wonder if he comes over the workshop.
Azel
awkward
They never really spoke much, they're just both awkwardly shoved together because of the beef between Axel and Zelly
They're not exactly friends, but Blade doesn't mind Azel, he's chill
Axel
This asshole, on the other hand, should just go and eat a-
Malice
Blade doesn't like how Malice makes fun of him for being so easily spooked, and also thinks he's a showoff
They have a weird antagonistic relationship where Malice just loves pranking him relentlessly, and since Blade can't help but to give Malice the reactions he so desperately craves, it only makes the teasing worse.
Root
big tree man scary
Imiya
She exists, they're not close but greet each other when they meet
Teia
She also exists, same case as Imiya. Pretty sure Teia has crushed on him at some point, she's like that
Backstory/Lore
Him and Zelly were two siblings, adopted into the Masquerade circus as children, they lived sheltered from the world and only ever had each other along with their friends at the circus.
Things happened and now they're just vibing in the rem forest instead.
Both of them really don't like discussing their past and are just glad to be living in the present.
Trivia
- Next to Zelly, Blade was the second Drimare character to be made, back in 2010, previously being a Nightmaren fan character for NiGHTS, the initial inspiration for Drimare Universe
- His old design was intended to be a mix of the characters NiGHTS and Jackle due to Blade originally being their "son", along with Zelly
- He also eventually took a very mild inspiration from Brief from Panty & Stocking, as well as Kagamine Len from Vocaloid (Along with his sister Zelly, who later took inspiration on Rin)
- His old design was intended to be a mix of the characters NiGHTS and Jackle due to Blade originally being their "son", along with Zelly
- His current design takes inspiration from Hipster fashion
- He was originally going to be called "Jack", which was then used as his middle name and was later scrapped
- His favourite food is blueberry pancakes, else he's not a fan of sweets and is probably capable of eating five bags of chips in less than an hour
- That's why he's so salty all the time
- He doesn't like anime but will watch it to indulge Iron because it makes him happy
- The one anime he genuinely enjoys is Panty & Stocking, which Iron not only finds to be in very poor taste but also believes Blade's enjoyment of the anime to be ironic and lacking sincerity.
