Sandman

Sandman, the First Dream and the creator of Drimare kind

Drimare (Somnium Harenae), plural Drimare, and also known as Dream Elves, are humanoid beings who inhabit the world of dreams, they have an elf-like appearance, with thousands of different subspecies with varying features.

Characteristic features include horns, large eyes, no nose and heads floating above their necks. They inhabit the Dream World, built on the collective conscience of all of Humanity.

This world and their species were created by a being known as The Sandman, the First Dream, who took inspiration in the imagery from Humans’ dreams, to create a realm that they could visit when they dreamed.

He then created the Drimare to populate his world, being originally failed attempts at recreating a human being, the Sandman chose to base them on the creatures and beings he saw in dreams instead.

Drimare Species

There are countless Drimare races and subspecies within the world. The Drimare can be based on practically anything as the Sandman takes inspiration from all the creatures he has seen on Human dreams.

Most of them follow the neckless and horned humanoid-like format, with characteristics varying depending on each species.

Regular Drimare

The most "humanoid" kind of Drimare species fall under the Regular Drimare subspecies. Although all Drimare are humanoid, these are the ones who don't have extra physical traits like an Animal or a Plant subspecies would have

Regular Drimare

P5 2

Zelly and Blade, who are two Regular Drimare

"Regular Drimare, often referred to as just Drimare, or sometimes Regulars, are a very common subspecies of Drimare. They're the most similar to Human beings, with the exception of the normal Drimare traits such as the horns and ears."

"Regular Drimare have a very "default" appearance, often finding themselves divided in two categories where they're more "human-like" and "fantasy-like" in regards to their colours. Regular Drimare can have any skin or hair colour, the more human-like have human tones while the fantasy-like can are usually more unnaturally coloured."

Rainbow Drimare

IM GAY

Leinbou, a Rainbow Drimare

"Rainbow Drimare, usually simply referred to as Rainbows, are an uncommon subspecies of Regular Drimare, originating from Soarite."

"Physically, Rainbows are identical to Regular Drimare, their main identifying traits being their extremely colourful hair gradients and their horns which have a pearl-like shine to them."

"Despite the association with bright colours, the skin tones of the Rainbow Drimare are usually in black, white or grey tones. They may have a really subtle tint to their skins, which matches their blood colour."

"In typical Soarite fashion, Rainbow Drimare can usually be seen in modern futuristic attires, their outfits usually being very colourful in appearance."

See Rainbow Drimare

Monochrome Drimare

"Monochrome Drimare, most commonly referred to as Monochromes, and Greyscales at times, are a very rare subspecies of Regular Drimare. They are actually a mutation of the Rainbow Drimare, which causes them to be completely colourless."

Good twin bad twin

The twins Axel (Right) and Azel (Left), two Monochrome Drimare

"As such, they are seen as outcasts by the Rainbow Drimare and rivalries between the two are very common."

"Much like their Rainbow counterparts, the Monochromes are physically identical to Regular Drimare, the only difference being that Monochromes lack any kind of colours to their features."

"Despite being called Monochromes, their colours are exclusively greyscale."

Elementals

wip wip wip

Note to self - Are Elemental Drimare exclusive to Regular Drimare or are hybrids a viable option? Example: Ice is a Dog Drimare with Ice powers, does this qualify? Think on it.

Edit - Ice is not a fire elemental, but her ice crystal belongs to one

Fire Drimare

Natural born pyromancers usually have dark brown skin colours, though red, orange or black can also happen.

They have fiery coloured eyes and fire like hair, it's not real fire though, it just kinda glows and does not obey the laws of gravity.

They're also very resistant to fire.

Blue Fire Drimare

Easily mistaken with Ghost Fire Drimare as both are blue in colour, Blue Fire Drimare are a subspecies of Fire Drimare, who are blue coloured rather than red, they're quite rare as well and feared due to their similarity to Ghosts.

Water Drimare

TBA

Ice Drimare

A powerful race of ice elementals from Brittle that was hunted to extinction because someone figured out that turning their crystal horns into shards and wearing them as jewellery gave the wearer ice powers

Rumours say that the remaining ice drimare might be hiding out in an ice cave somewhere

Rock/Earth Drimare

Isn't Ramel one of these?

Crystal Drimare

I don't think these are exactly elemental?? anyway they have crystal bodies and a bunch of them live in secret in Soarite

Look androgynous

Animal Drimare

WHY IS 95% OF THE INFO HERE ABSOLUTELY WRONG

Mammals (Cats, Dogs, Bats, sheep, etc)

These Drimare usually have hind legs, and lower arms both covered in fur, the feet are usually a paw, claw, hoof, whatever from the respective animal has, but in most cases, the hands are usually normal, with the exception of being clawed.

Note: Sheep and other hooved critter's hands only have three fingers however

They also have a tail and ears matching their respective animals, as well as extra body parts like wings, chest fur or antlers.

Unlike Regular Drimare, Animal Drimare don't have horns unless the specific animal calls for it.

Similar to Regular Drimare, they can have natural colours or bright fantasy like colours, and they can also be magic or just simply natural.

Cat Drimare

Marshall 2x

Marshall, a brown tabby Cat Drimare

"The Cat Drimare, commonly just referred to as Cats, are a very common subspecies of the Animal Drimare, being found in just about every region."

"They are part of the feline subspecies and are directly based on domestic cats, taking traits from them such as their ears and tails, as well as their agility."

"Much like most of mammal Animal Drimare, the cats follow a similar design pattern, with having the ears and tails of their real-life counterparts, as well as cat-like legs and fur and claws on their hands."

"Unsurprisingly, the ears and tails are cat like, they usually have a fairly normal size, though the fantasy variants (Ex: Brew, etc.) can have different sized ears or tails, varying in length of the fur and the tail itself."

Bird drimare

JasperNew

Jasper, an African Grey Parrot Drimare

"Bird Drimare, also referred to as just Birds or Avians, and not to be mistaken by their Monster counterparts, the Harpies, are a common subspecies of Animal Drimare living all around the Drimare Universe."

"They can be found nearly anywhere in the world, but are most commonly found in regions like Keelhaul Isle and Droptera, the latter having them being the predominant species along with the Insect Drimare, who they subsequently have a very negative history with."

"Unlike most Animal Drimare, the Birds have fully feathered bodies, bird legs with talons and feathered arms which some are able to use for flight."

"They only have clear skin on their faces which are Drimare-like. Some Birds also wear bird masks with beaks to hide their faces or just their mouths."

See Bird Drimare

Insect Drimare

Strike a pose

Tyler, a Butterfly Drimare

"Insect Drimare, also referred to as Insects, Insectoids or Bugs are a common subspecies of Animal Drimare living all around the Drimare Universe."

"They're based on common insects and take after their various features. They're quite common in forest-like areas such as Amaranth and the Rem Forest, but are also oddly common on Soarite."

"They're hardworking and tend to enjoy functioning in large hivemind-like groups."

"Insect Drimare are usually easily recognizable by their antennae, wings and exoskeleton limbs, as well as their uncommon eye colours."

See Insect Drimare

Fish Drimare

(Not to be mistaken for Mermaids) - Entire body is scales, webbed hands and feet, usually clawed, fish tail and fins on arms and legs. The have fins instead of ears.

Idk I haven't worked too much on them

Pupils usually have odd shapes

Examples: Pearl, uh... no one else

Snake Drimare

(Not to be mistaken with MALICE)

Naga like bodies, eyes similar to Malice's tho, fangs and forked tongues, no horns, kind of huge

Can and will eat you

Only bottom half of their body is snake-like

Or should they have no arms? I never made a Snake Drimare and this is just how I imagine they'd be.

Might change if I do make a character like this

Note: Centaurs, satyrs etc don't count in these Animal Drimare groups, will write later

Plant Drimare

Flower Drimare

Polly

Polin, a Dandelion Flower Drimare

"Flower Drimare, also known as Flora DrimareFlorals, or simply Flowers, are a common race within Drimare Universe. Their origins are unknown, however, they can be found all over the world, most commonly in forest-like areas such as the Rem Forest and Amaranth."

"Unlike most Regular Drimare, Flower Drimare do not possess any horns, instead, having two buds on their place with their respective flower."

"One of the most recognizable traits of the Flower Drimare are the two vine-like appendages growing from their backs. These vines, more commonly referred to as lashers, are can be used to attack as well as to hold onto things."

See Flower Drimare

Tree Drimare

Inside of eyes is black instead of white, horns made of branches and wood, THEY'RE REALLY HECKING TALL and are usually loners

They like to stand still and do a whole lotta nothing, probably have birds nesting on them sometimes, and are a bunch of hippies

Examples: Root

Wood Drimare

Basically the light version of Tree Drimare. Puppet Drimare are vaguely related to these

Example: Kamaria

Fae Drimare

Fairies and Pixies

Trolls???

Monster Drimare

Although they're not as biologically related as plants and animals, the Monster Drimare is a category which contains all the Drimare subspecies which resemble monsters, most commonly creatures from mythology.

Harpy Drimare

Doria alive

Doria, a Sea Hawk Harpy

"Harpy Drimare, often just referred to as Harpies, and not to be mistaken by their Animal counterpart, the Bird Drimare, are a subspecies under the Monster Drimare category."

"Some refer to them as a hybrid between the Regular and the Bird Drimare, and they are based on the Harpies from Greek and Roman mythology."

"The harpies are native to the Amphora's Peak island, and a significant portion of them tends to be more feral and primitive, giving the species a reputation of thieving scavengers who love shiny objects. They enjoy living near the ocean, and the large rocks surrounding the island are usually home to various harpies, who will not hesitate to flock to the passing boats and ships to see what they take from them."

See Harpy Drimare

Satyrs/Fauns

Centaurs

Dragon Drimare

Unicorn Drimare (Would they count as fae?)

Oni Drimare??? (But weren't they yokai??? Is the yokai category necessary?)

Cyclops Drimare (Also native to Amphora's Peak!)

Species I have no idea where they fit

  • Genie Drimare
  • Doll/Puppet Drimare (I know the puppets are related to Wood Drimare, but classifying them as "plant drimare" is ?????? not feeling that
    • Scarecrow Drimare are from the same family as the puppets/dolls
  • C L O W N D R I M A R E (Also Jesters and Mimes are a subspecies of clown)
    • hi jay where the fuck are you going to put "clowns" in these made up biology categories, closest is regular drimare I guess, but still
      • note to self, "clown" is its own category, make it so they have really fucked up biology, like they hatch from eggs or smth
  • Also Robots. But then again, Walter was built, not born as a robot, unless he has a living soul?? Wouldn't that put him in zombie category then??
  • Whatever the Scarecrow (monster) is
  • Cactus Drimare are currently under the Flower Drimare umbrella, but I'm not sure of how accurate that is.
  • Is it worth to mention hybrids and how rare they are?
  • Aquatic Drimare (Pearl, Coral and Rad are all aquatic and yet completely different species, it's complicated)
  • Whatever Rad, Amani and Melani are
  • Whatever Pearl is
  • FFS JAY WORK ON YOUR OWN LORE BECAUSE THIS PAGE IS A MESS

Curses

idk what else to call these for now

  • Vampires
  • Werewolves
  • Werecats/rabbits/others

Celestials/Demons

  • Dawn and Sandman
  • Angels
  • Fallen Angels
  • Demons (Sclera and Okhula)
  • Shadow Drimare??? I think their ancestors are former demons???
  • Is Shadow himself a demon?
  • The Suits

Undead

When a Drimare dies, their soul is sent to a liminal realm known as the Limbo, where they can get picked up by a Reaper and can have four different outcomes.

True Death

The most common kind of death. The Drimare dies, and their soul is sent to the Afterlife, a special area located in Eden which could be compared to Heaven.

Those who have committed horrible atrocities may find themselves sent to Tartarus instead, which is a wasteland, inhabited by monsters and evil spirits.

Either way, these Drimare have no way to return to the living world.

Ghost

Ghosts are the most common type of undead and aren't actually too rare to come across, some regions even have no problem with treating them like regular citizens.

Lahyt updated3

Lahyt, the Ghost of a Moth Drimare child. Her skull head is uncommon for Ghost Drimare, but not an anomaly.

Whether by a shortage of Reapers in the area, by hiding or just being forgotten, Ghosts are the Drimare souls that were never caught by a Reaper.

Wandering

Kurt, the Ghost of a Regular Drimare. He is perfectly capable of materializing legs, he just chooses not to.

Due to their extended time spent in the Limbo, they have learned to materialize and as such, were moved back to the living world. They are incapable of returning to the Limbo, that skill is exclusive to Reapers.

They usually glow and appear paler than how they did in life, however, the physical appearance of a ghost is known to change depending on species as well as their own personal ability to materialize and change their body.

Fun Fact - Fire Drimare's fire hair turns blue in death.

Ghosts have a limited set of special abilities, most commonly they have the ability to hover and materialize at will, while some can make themselves invisible to the naked eye and can use this to cause Poltergeist-like problems.

When half-materialized, they are capable of phasing through things. Although a much rarer ability, some Ghosts have been seen to know how to teleport short distances, as well as cause visions of objects or entities that aren't actually there. Some Ghosts carry natural abilities from their life, such as Elemental Drimare still keeping their elemental powers.

Zombie

Zombies are a rarer type of undead due to the specific conditions required for their existence. They start out the same as Ghosts, being souls stuck in the Limbo, who were never found by a Reaper. However, rather than materializing into Ghosts, after a while, Zombies can manage to return to their corpses instead, usually by being conveniently left close to their bodies when they die, or by a pure determination to stay alive.

Raven

Raven, a Zombie of a Regular Drimare, whose body was previously cut into pieces in death, and sewn back together by herself.

This process is not instant as it takes a while for a soul to be able to possess an empty body after death, but some more extreme exceptions can occur where this happens much quicker. In short, Zombies are basically Ghosts with physical bodies, but not every soul is capable of this, which explains their rarity.

Once becoming zombies, their bodies will no longer age or heal, and may appear decayed in some way. Some zombies are capable of regenerating and regrowing limbs and on some occasions, some can even alter the appearance of their bodies, albeit not as easily as ghosts.

Their abilities are much more limited when compared to those of Ghosts. Unlike Ghosts, Zombies cannot change their materialization, nor can they hover or glow or phase through things. They do have a much higher pain tolerance, most of them actually being fully incapable of feeling any pain to begin with.

Skeletons

A particularly quirky variant of Zombies are the Skeletons, being even rarer than regular Zombies. The main difference being that the body that they possessed was already in a further stage of decay, they're most common for those who died in fire-related incidents.

Interrogation illustration

Angus and Dante, two Skeleton Zombies of Regular Drimare.

Skeletons seem to have a very specific ability to recreate certain body parts such as hair and limbs, half materializing them using spirit fire. However, this is mostly used for hair and hands. It has a fiery-like appearance and it can take any colour, with oranges and yellows being the most common.

Despite having physical bodies, Zombies and Skeletons have no need to eat in order to sustain themselves. They also cannot die in traditional ways, however, it is possible for the body of a Zombie to get destroyed to the point of becoming inhabitable, in which case, their soul will be released. If the soul has no empty body to possess, they will simply become a Ghost.

It is possible for a soul to possess a body that does not belong to them, however, these instances are very rare.

Zombies are also not to be mistaken by the average horror movie brain dead brain-eating zombie. These are simply empty vessels, most commonly brought back to life through magical means.

In the Bonemaw region, the Reaper Lucia is known for reviving certain deceased as skeletons regardless of these specific conditions, causing Skeleton undead to be a lot more common in that part of the world.

Reapers

Mother winter

Fuyuki, one of the Reapers from Brittle.

"Reapers are the universe's agents of the Afterlife, they live among mortals and their goal is to send the souls of the deceased into the Afterlife before they become ghosts or any form of undead.

Unlike what is a common misconception, Reapers do not kill anyone, instead, they simply wait for one's natural death before sending their soul away.

They are, in fact, benevolent spirits, most of them at least.

They're immortal spirits, most notable for carrying scythes with the ability to tear the fabric of reality in order to open portals to the Limbo and the Afterlife."
