Fuyuki, most commonly referred to as "The Snow Reaper" or "Winter Mother" is one of the First Reapers, guarding the region of Brittle.
She roams the wintery mountains in search of those who have been lost in the snow in order to guide them on their way back home. She never makes herself seen by the living, rather appearing as a ghost-like silhouette in the distance.
For those who have lost their lives to the snow, Fuyuki will gather their souls and send them on their way to the Afterlife.
She's a popular figure in Brittle folklore, however, none know of her real name, as knowing and calling a Reaper's name is considered to bring bad luck. She is simply referred to as the Winter Mother and is often followed by a thick fog.
Appearance
Fuyuki appears to be quite tall, she's often floating and her cloak makes her much taller than she is.
She's blind and has pale blue eyes that appear frozen, as well as white skin and white hair with a texture similar to snow, she possesses two light blue glass-like horns and always keeps her mouth covered as it has been slit from both sides when she was killed.
She wears a long black cloak and as she's always hovering, she appears to have a rather ghostly appearance. Although her feet are not visible she is actually barefoot.
Personality
Fuyuki lives up to her ghastly appearance, appearing cold, stern and silent in front of others, she keeps her distance and hardly appears approachable to others, seeing no point to it when her job is to send them away.
She is especially cold to men and those who engage in wars and killing, wanting as little interaction as possible.
However, when met with sadder and more desperate souls, despite all this, Fuyuki will become much more compassionate and warmhearted, comforting them and calm them.
She is especially warm to children, becoming quite loving and nurturing until she has to send them away.
Abilities
As a Reaper, Fuyuki's abilities consist of flying, shape-shifting and sensing the presence of other living beings and souls in her surroundings.
Fuyuki also has control over the snow, ice and wind, being able to freeze others, however, she is unable to undo this.
If she sees someone near death, she can also take their soul out of their body to send it directly to the Afterlife if she finds them to have no hope of surviving.
Backstory
Fuyuki was a young woman living in a snowy village in the mountains of Brittle. She was married to her husband and when war came by, he had to leave her to help in it. When he left, she hadn't told him that she was pregnant with his child.
When he returned months later and saw her with the newborn baby, he snapped and believed that she had cheated on him while he was gone, so he grabbed and killed the child, all while Fuyuki screamed and tried to get him to stop and saying that it wasn't true.
He didn't believe her and as the child was dead, he was fed up with her screams and crying and grabbed a knife, slicing the sides of her mouth so she couldn't scream anymore.
However, that only made it worse, and as such, he kicked her out into the snowstorm outside. It was a winter night, and with the freezing storm, bleeding from her mouth, lacking the strength to move and feeling her eyes and tears freeze with the ice, Fuyuki died in the cold.
Her lost soul was eventually found by Asriel, who offered her the life of a Reaper. Fuyuki was quick to accept, becoming a ghostly figure living in the mountains, seeking to comfort those who lost their lives to the unforgiving cold.
