Reapers are the universe's agents of the Afterlife, they live among mortals and their goal is to send the souls of the deceased into the Afterlife before they become ghosts or any form of undead.
Unlike what is a common misconception, Reapers do not kill anyone, instead, they simply wait for one's natural death before sending their soul away.
They are, in fact, benevolent spirits, most of them at least.
They're immortal spirits, most notable for carrying scythes with the ability to tear the fabric of reality in order to open portals to the Limbo and the Afterlife.
Appearance[]
A Reaper can have any appearance and be of any species, gender or age group (Though it's rare for any Reaper to be below the physical age of 18 as they're more prone to developing emotional problems due to the pressure of the job)
Malice, a Regular Drimare Reaper whose death involved dying by snake poison, took certain snake traits such as slit pupils and fangs. (This art is so old, replace with something better.)
Previously being normal living Drimare, when they become Reapers, their appearance is known to sometimes change to match the theme of how they died.
These changes can be extremely obvious, like Malice having snake eyes, or more subtle like Fuyuki getting snow-like hair.
Though Reapers are shapeshifters and most can change their entire appearance at will, these new traits are usually "locked" into their appearance.
Hierarchies[]
Asriel[]
Asriel is known as the original First Reaper, he is, quite literally, the first reaper. He responds directly to the gods, who gave him the job to begin with and also oversees how the rest of the Reapers are doing.
First Reapers[]
Ex: Root
The most ancient Reapers, they have wandered the world for a very long time
They can double as region guardians
Guardians[]
Ex: Root and Fuyuki
Not as ancient as First Reapers but also very important
They're in charge of teaching the lower Reapers
They're also capable of converting deceased into Reapers
Regular Reapers[]
Ex: Malice
Most common in large regions where there's a higher demand for Reapers
Have a low life span of about 100-200 something years before they are sent into the Afterlife
They cannot convert deceased into Reapers and are easily discardable
Life Cycle[]
depends on the type of reaper, but they all start the same
Origins & Habitat[]
Reapers are born from a pure soul of a recently deceased, who makes a deal with a Guardian Reaper. They are often chosen for being pure of heart and kind, and are given a new body and the job to clean out the souls.
Most of them live in the Limbo, where most souls can be found
Corruption[]
If they don't get any souls to reap, they will go insane :')
Fun Facts[]
- Reapers' abilities regarding their physical bodies take inspiration on the gems from steven universe
- Fuyuki was the first Reaper to be designed, but Malice was the one that lead me to want explore to them as a concept
- It is rumoured that calling for a Reaper's true name will bring bad luck to the one who mutters it, whether this is true or simply superstition is unknown
